The sought after Grand d'Or medal went to the Stellenzicht Cellarmaster's Release Pinotage 2005, a new wine made from a selection of exceptional barrels of Pinotage by accomplished Winemaker, Guy Webber. The newly released Stellenzicht Syrah 2002 and Stellenzicht Semillon Reserve 2004 were both awarded Gold medals. The third Gold medal went to the Hill and Dale Pinotage 2005 which is also made at Stellenzicht.
Whilst Stellenzicht is highly regarded as a producer of excellent Shiraz, Webber's personal favourite is undoubtedly Pinotage.
“The 2005 vintage produced some exceptional batches that really stood out for us in the cellar. Rather than blending them in with our existing wines, we decided to set these 10 or 12 barrels aside for our first Stellenzicht Cellarmaster's Release Pinotage,” said Webber.
Stellenzicht has produced once-off Cellarmaster Releases of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon during past vintages when the winemaking team discovered barrels that were superior or unique.
