SA wines flying high in German awards

Yet another South African wine estate has garnered prestigious 2007 MUNDUSvini awards in Germany. Nederburg has earned four medals – two golds and two silvers.

The wins, says the estate's marketing manager, Misti Watson, represent a major coup for Nederburg. “Germany is our next biggest market, where sales have continued to climb, despite the fierce competition from New World and Old World producers.

The German gold medallists are the estate's Pinotage and Merlot, both of the 2005 vintage and Classic tier wines. Silvers have gone to the 2005 Manor House Shiraz, which took gold on the inaugural Shiraz du Monde held in France earlier this year, as well as to the newly released 2007 Sauvignon Blanc, another Classic tier wine . The 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, an extremely popular wine, was a Veritas gold winner.

Nederburg sells across Europe and in North America and the continued growth in international sales bears out the brand's universal appeal, says Watson.
