Results Media secures rights to publish Marvel Rampage

Allegedly a number one selling youth title in the UK, Results Media Group (RMG) will launch Marvel Rampage in South Africa in August 2007 as a 40-page boy's lifestyle magazine that will target kids between the ages of seven and 12, a youth market who live and relate wholeheartedly to the Marvel superheroes.

Marvel Rampage is a global icon brand that features household names such as Spiderman, X-Men, Hulk, Silver Surfer and the Fantastic Four – to name only a few.

RMG CEO Cameron Bramley says 20 000 monthly copies of Marvel Rampage will retail at CNA stores nationwide at a retail price of R14.95.

Publisher Frank Walsh says Marvel is the platform on which every child's imagination can run wild and allow their daydreams to come to life. “It is a world of positive, accessible role models that instil the morally sound values that children so desperately need today.”

To quote Stan Lee after 60 years of storytelling from the mighty Marvel bullpen: “Marvel is a cornucopia of fantasy, a wild idea, a swashbuckling attitude, an escape from the humdrum and prosaic. It's a serendipitous feast for the mind, the eye, and the imagination, a literate celebration of unbridled creativity, coupled with a touch of rebellion and an insolent desire to sit in the eye of the dragon.”

The Marvel brand does not only create superheroes, it is a superhero itself with every film a blockbuster success, and billions of dollars worth of video games and consumer products sold each year.

Marvel brands allegedly generated U$6 billion in retail sales in 2004 and continue to grow year on year.

Walsh believes that the launch of Marvel Rampage in South Africa will re-establish the comic book culture as it unveils years of the continuous plot evolution of 47 000 heroes and villains, friends and relations – characters whose single fictional universe inter-relates and inter-twines between stories.

The resurgence of comics is evident in a reported 400% increase in Marvel Comics sales in the last five years, with 20 million monthly readers across Europe alone. South Africa is no exception to the rest of the world, and Results Media Group is investigating the launch of Marvel Rampage in a number of languages to transcend all youth markets in South Africa who aspire to a positive and accessible role model culture.
