Shoprite, Transfarm merger approved
South Africa's Competition Tribunal on Wednesday, 25 November 2009, unconditionally approved the merger of supermarket group Shoprite Checkers and Transfarm, Exfarma, Group 2 Transport, Medsnel Transport, Pretoria IT Service, Schulenburg Verbeek and Wekmed Marketing.
In terms of the sale of shares agreement, Shoprite (SHP) intends to acquire all of the ordinary shares in the total issued share capital of the Transfarm Group, as well as all the claims and rights of whatever nature, excluding dividends declared and not yet paid, which the Trusts may have against the Transfarm Group as at a defined date.
