Spain - first Toffie Pop Design Olympic winner
As part of the third annual Toffie Pop Culture Conference and Festival, The President design studio invited five countries to take part in a Design Olympics. Each team had to do a conference presentation, workshops and a 15-minute small talk.
"One of the strong themes and discussion points of this year's conference was that the future of design lies in how we can share, work together and allow other designers to feed off our work and develop new work from that. We are living in a world of information exchange and design needs to follow suit. The Spanish team excelled as they not only presented, but also showed in practice how subgroups of designers and design groups from different design disciplines can work together to create exceptional work," said Peet Pienaar, creative director at the President and organiser of Toffie Pop.
"Quality of Spanish design"
"The Embassy of Spain in South Africa is delighted with the victory of the Spanish team, who showcased the quality of Spanish design. Thanks to the organisers' expertise and to the funding of the Embassy´s cultural programme, Mzansicultura.es, this selection of Spanish designers has taken part in one of the most cutting-edge events happening in the world.
"We are proud that this event takes place in Cape Town, as the city will be the World Design Capital in 2014, a great achievement for South African creative industries. With events like Toffie Pop, I strongly believe Cape Town will show the world the talent and creativity one can feel in this city," said Pablo Benavides Orgaz, ambassador of Spain in South Africa.
