Pack your bags for Loeries
The finalists have been announced and the awards are just around the corner – so it's time to make your final plans for The Loerie Awards festival weekend on 28 and 29 July 2007.
If you haven't already bought your tickets to the awards ceremony, then you may just be lucky to grab the last seats – go to www.theloerieawards.co.za/festival/tickets/ for details.
If you have your ticket in your hand, then you can start planning the rest of the weekend, starting with SABC's Battle of the Bands. It's every budding Rock Star's dream: to show off your musical talents on the Margate Beach in front of the masses. Get the band together and register with to play on Sunday from 11am.
If your idea of fun is beating little things with a stick, then the Vodacom Golf Tournament at San Lameer is for you – a shotgun tournament with lots of fun, flowing drinks, golf carts and prizes. To book a four-ball or individual players, email .
International showreels
Then there's the Miss South Coast Beauty Pageant, the legendary Velocity Pool Party, Papersmith & Son's paper aeroplane competition, bow and arrow target shooting on the beach with MyWeek, beach volleyball and touch rugby. And if just reading all of this exhausts you, then you can put your feet up at the Margate Cinema and watch the best of international showreels including The One Show, Cannes, Art Directors Club, Gunn Report, London International Advertising Awards, Epica Awards, Golden Drum Awards, and the Young Guns. If you're lucky enough to be one of our VIPs, then swing by the Vodacom VIP Lounge for a relaxing drink overlooking the Indian Ocean.
And, of course, after all of this there's the awards ceremony, hosted by Media24 on Saturday and SABC on Sunday. The unforgettable Margate Street Parade will open the Saturday evening and pre-drinks and tapas will be served from 4.30 pm at the venue. Taxis will shuttle continuously between the awards venue and the Margate Hotel, and guests can also take the scenic route via the stairway. Doors close at 6.30 pm, so don't take too long getting into your award-winning dress!
Dress code
Which brings us to the dress code…
In 2007 the Loeries is all glam. Imagine it's 1923 and you're off to the Cotton Club in New York, or 1965 and you're drinking martinis with the Kennedys at Martha's Vineyard . How about it's 1976 and you and Formula 1 enfant terrible James Hunt are off to a disco in Monaco?
Imagine you're going to The 29th Loerie Awards. Slip on a tie, a jacket; be stunning in your most beautiful dress of the year, and wear sparkling jewellery. Be what you want to be; be bold, wear vintage velvet or 21st century Alexander McQueen. Wear sunglasses and French cologne.
After the awards, there's the heat Afterglow Party on the Saturday evening and the SABC Street Party on the Sunday evening (where the Gang of Instrumentals will be performing live).
Remember to pack your ticket with your toothbrush, because if you don't have the actual ticket in your hand, you won't gain access to just about everything we've been going on about here.
A shuttle service is provided between the airport and Margate but you have to book your seat (contact ). Additionally, all official Loerie accommodation venues will have a door-to-door taxi shuttle, with taxis passing every 20 minutes.
