Cocktails on the croquet lawns of the V&A Waterfront

Designer entertaining company, Loudfire, recently provided the ideal setting for an elegant welcoming cocktail event for the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC),held on the beautiful croquet lawns overlooking the world-renowned V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

The 1100 guests were treated to a selection of canapés of sushi, cheese and chocolate tables as well as a champagne and oyster bar, all served by waiters dressed in traditional colonial attire. The soft melody of the female quartet coupled with the backdrop of Table Mountain helped transport the guests back to a time when Cape Town's Waterfront was first visited by seafaring travellers.

Says Paul Sainsbury, Sales Director of Loudfire: "The real challenge here was to create a mobile restaurant space big enough to host 1100 guests as there was not sufficient space anywhere within the Waterfront. Using a combination of lounge furniture, small café-style tables, and tall cocktail tables, guests were invited to experience different taste and touch sensations in different areas. Serving different food and beverages in different areas, allowed the guests to move around the mobile restaurant interacting with each other. The party was scheduled to end at about 9 o'clock but guests ended up leaving at 11 o'clock."

The pristine white freestyle tents seemed to float above the green croquet lawns accentuating the theme of the party. Despite the party's unusual setting and not being able to secure the tent to the ground, Loudfire rose to the challenge and effortlessly created a colonial cocktail experience enjoyed by all.

The V&A Waterfront is now one of Cape Town's biggest tourist attractions, with over 400 stores to choose from, including international and local designer boutiques, jewellery showrooms, restaurants and coffee shops.
