Oakley has expanded its retail footprint in South Africa with the recent opening of its second apparel store, bringing the eyewear brand's broader lifestyle proposition to Johannesburg.

The expansion, led by EssilorLuxottica, marks another step in Oakley's move beyond its traditional eyewear positioning and into a broader apparel and accessories proposition built around performance, functionality and street-inspired design.
For the brand, the rollout creates a physical retail platform for reaching consumers who increasingly move between sport, fashion and everyday lifestyles rather than treating them as separate categories.
From eyewear to a broader lifestyle proposition
Oakley's apparel offering is built around the same performance-led principles that underpin its eyewear business, with an emphasis on innovation, durability and functionality.
The AFA (Apparel, Fashion and Accessories) concept extends those principles into clothing and accessories, targeting consumers looking for technical performance without moving away from contemporary fashion.

The strategy reflects the continued convergence of activewear and lifestyle fashion, where consumers increasingly expect products to work across different parts of their daily routines — from sport and outdoor activities to commuting and social settings.
Oakley describes its target consumer as someone living a mobile lifestyle and looking for products that combine technical capability with a modern, street-influenced aesthetic.
Sandton becomes the next expansion point
The choice of Sandton City for Oakley's second South African AFA location gives the brand a presence in one of Johannesburg's major premium retail destinations.
Following the initial Cape Town launch, the move into Gauteng expands the physical reach of the AFA concept beyond the Western Cape and gives Oakley access to a different concentration of consumers.

“Following the success of our first AFA store in Cape Town, Johannesburg was the natural next step,” says Sade Anter, marketing manager at EssilorLuxottica.
“Sandton's blend of business energy and style-conscious consumers makes it an ideal home for the brand.”
The two-store rollout also gives Oakley an opportunity to test and build the AFA concept across South Africa's two major metropolitan retail markets.
Performance meets fashion in physical retail
The expansion comes at a time when sports and fashion retail are increasingly overlapping.
Performance brands are moving further into lifestyle categories, while fashion brands are incorporating technical materials, functionality and sports-inspired design into mainstream collections.
For Oakley, the AFA strategy provides a way to bring these categories together under one physical retail proposition.
Rather than positioning apparel as an extension of eyewear alone, the stores are designed to establish Oakley as a broader lifestyle brand, with clothing and accessories complementing its established eyewear business.
“This second opening shows our commitment to bringing high-quality, performance-driven products to active consumers across South Africa, not just in one city,” says Anter.
With stores now operating in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Oakley's next phase in South Africa will be about building on that initial footprint and establishing its apparel, fashion and accessories proposition alongside the brand's established position in performance eyewear.
