How to anger online customers

This week we touch on things making the online consumer sad and glad. First up, on the 'sad' end of the scale, is the 'online sale of a lifetime' that angered many - clothing store Mango customers after a 'technical issue' lead to an unbelievable R1 sale. The sadness came when all orders on those products were cancelled. Instead of honouring the erroneously priced orders and keeping those customers, there was a lack of social media response to complaints and an email stating "We advise you to check all the details provided when you placed your order and to try and place the order again".

Still in the realm of all things online, Johan Dekker, head of payments in Africa at PayU EMEA says the electronic funds transfer or EFT is making a comeback as it is cost effective and breaks down significant barriers to entry related to online shopping.

With this in mind, the world's first Fairtrade webstore has launched, with Cape Town-based Fairtrade South Africa pioneering the move as the global organisation's first marketing and business development set up in a developing country. Visit the online shop, currently virtually stocked with wine to see how local innovation keeps customers happy, especially as chocolate, tea and spices will be added to the inventory later this year.
