    San Bushmen support needed

We are trying to set up on-site support for the Bushmen who want to stop drinking and drugging (which is decimating their communities). We are approaching organisations for financial assistance, and individuals for support. Any offers or ideas?

We started an AA group (Alcoholics Anonymous) in Andriesvale in the Kalahari, and as AA is run according to spiritual principles, the Bushmen totally connected. AA is entirely voluntary, and we cannot get paid to do AA work. However, we were providing lay counselling support, and we got a little financial support from SASI (The South African San Institute) and the Kalahari People's Fund which got one lay councillor there for a month, and got the AA group to a rally in Sprinbok. While all the organisations who already work with the Bushmen acknowledge that alcohol and dagga abuse underimine the projects aimed at empowering the Bushmen, their funds are directed to projects that have more measurable outcomes, or are already allocated. What we need are pointers as to who best to approach, or actual funding - SASI is willing to administer any funding given.

    WE NEED:
A 4X4 vehicle (in roadworthy condition)
    Laptop and printer
    email and internet account
    Air time

This is a great opportunity for advertisers, as there is quite a large tourism industry there.

We also need to cover minimal salaries for 2 people for 4 month periods in each community
    Office/room rental
Additional donations to cover travel between communities (they are quite far apart)
Additional donations to enable us to take the members to rallys and other communities for mutual support.

    OUR AIMS
    1. To provide lay counselling support to members or any interested parties including AA members, Alanon, spouses, the addict/alcoholic, employers, funders etc.

    2. To establish a culture of recovery and personal responsibility.

    3. To be on hand to provide support to the still suffering alcoholic/addict.

    4. To negotiate sponsored beds for anyone requiring in-patient rehabilitation.

    5. To help keep the culture of AA alive in the communities.

    ... And lots more ...
