Professor Mabokang Monnapula-Mapesela is Rhodes Uni's first black female deputy vice-chancellor

Professor Mabokang Monnapula-Mapesela has been appointed as Rhodes University's first black female deputy vice-chancellor of academic and student affairs. Monnapula-Mapesela formerly served as Central University of Technology Free State (CUT) Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching's (CILT) senior director.

In her 10-year academic service at CUT, Prof. Monnapula-Mapesela was the dean of academic development and support and later senior director for the centre for innovation in learning and teaching. She previously worked as an associate professor at the University of the Free State where she held several other academic positions. Her international educational experience includes working as a visiting professor in the Executive Directorate in education administration programme at Seton Hall University in New Jersey.

Her qualifications include a PhD in higher education studies and a master's degree in education from the University of the Free State, a post-graduate diploma in higher education from Rhodes University and two undergraduate degrees in education and science.
