Evolution boosts computer literacy in Uganda

Evolution Technology Labs, a new training-needs service provider, has set up an ICT Lab at Santa Lucia Basic School in Uganda through a partnership with the Wakiso district-based school. The beneficiaries are trained in using computers and other IT hardware and software applications including Microsoft Office, the Internet and Typing Master.

Through its partnership, the ICT training brand of Evolution Solutions, is promoting the use of technology at an early age to enable children to become inventive in the future. The firm is equally attempting to bridge the digital divide between Ugandan children and youths and those in developed countries, according to Edward Mayanja, the company's co-founder and communications executive. Only about four million Ugandans out of the 30 million people are computer literate and have access to the Internet.

In addition, Mayanja said, “Evolution's objective is to groom a 'young but powerful human resource base for Uganda' starting right at the bottom of the pyramid.”

Florence Ajuru, the headmistress of the school who hosted the directors of the company said the school and parents of the pupils were thrilled by the innovation at the school.
