Practical workshops on IoT, M2M across South Africa
FastNet, a M2M operator and part of Telkom, has formally joined LoRa Alliance, an organisation aimed at standardising the Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) to be deployed around the world to enable IoT and M2M industrial applications. The LoRa Alliance made its official global debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 4 March 2015.
The alliance intends its members to drive the LoRa protocol's success through sharing knowledge and experience to ensure collaboration among all telecommunication operators and private network operators, to create an ecosystem of developers to expedite IoT connectivity.
According to Jim Morrish, Chief research officer at Machina Research, "LPWAN will be the dominant form of wide area networking for the IoT by 2022."
Duncan Ellison of FastNet plans to share the knowledge with entrepreneurs and SMME business owners to showcase the benefits of new IoT and M2M technology. "The training workshops will provide opportunities for professionals from executive, technical, operation levels within government, agency or entrepreneurial sectors to better understand the technology and how it will help enable worldwide mobility of the IoT."
