Multi-purpose CoolSeal boxes now in SA

When the new CoolSeal SA packaging range launched at the Propak Exhibition in Cape Town last month, surprising new applications for the product in a South African market emerged. The CoolSeal range has been extremely successful in Europe, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional expanded polystyrene box.

The boxes are designed for the cold chain delivery of chilled products and can be simply stacked or baled for collection/disposal after delivery. The edges of the boxes are sealed through patented technology previously unavailable in South Africa. The sealed edges create stronger, more hygienic packaging.

A solution for mining industry

"Although seafood such as live lobsters, shellfish and frozen and filleted fish remains one of our most important target markets, we were amazed by some of the companies who approached us," says Christo Pienaar, MD of CoolSeal SA. "We learnt that the mining industry has a particular need for this product because they operate in extreme cold and wet conditions, making it difficult to transport components, tools or explosives. Alternatives such as waxed cardboard has proved to be disastrous. We also learnt that we can provide a solution to fresh produce farms that have to wet pack their fruit and vegetables, such as banana and asparagus farmers while the lucrative flower export market is also of interest to us."

Polypropylene is an extremely light but durable product that can be fully branded and easily retooled according to a client's requirement. CoolSeal boxes, the first of its kind in South Africa, take up 30% less space than polystyrene during shipping and is fully recyclable.
