Schools participate in Collect-A-Bag campaign

The Collect-A-Bag campaign is the brainchild of Albany and its inception was aimed at encouraging communities to collect the plastic bags from Albany Superior loaves, in order to decrease the level of pollution and dumping.

Albany Pietermaritzburg challenged schools to collect Albany Superior plastic bags for a chance to win prize money for the school as well as the learners.

Albany is currently visiting schools in KwaZulu-Natal which participated in the Collect-A-Bag campaign. The campaign was run with 66 schools in total and so far 41 schools have been paid out to remunerate them for the work they put into collecting Albany bags. Every school received 10c per bag. The winning classes at the schools for most Albany bags collected received Tinkies and the winning learners who collected most bags were rewarded R150.

Mthethomusha Primary School, Decca Road Primary School and Allandale Primary School each won R588.10c, R541.60c and R402.00 respectively for their efforts. "On behalf of Albany, I would like to congratulate all the schools that participated in the Collect-A-Bag campaign. The main objective of the campaign was to encourage schools to do their bit to save the environment. The overall participation from the schools was overwhelming," said Zaheera Aboo on behalf of Albany.
