Nordex project the first with Generation Delta turbines
Nordex has been awarded a 111MW project which will have 37 N117/3000 turbines, making it the first one in South Africa to be fitted with Generation Delta turbines.
With wind speeds averaging around 8m/s at the site in the south of the country, the turbines will be able to produce 424GWh of clean electricity after being installed. Accordingly, the wind farm will achieve an above-average capacity factor of more than 43%.
"The establishment of a local company in 2012 marked an important strategic step forward in our efforts to position ourselves in the emerging South African market. In this way, we are able to handle local projects more swiftly and competently," explains Lars Bondo Krogsgaard, a member of Nordex SE's management board.
Education Trust
In the first round of bidding, Nordex had been awarded the 100MW Dorper project, the 80MW Kouga project and the 134.4MW Amakhala project. Including this project, Nordex has secured a total of 425.4MW, equivalent to around 20% of the total of 1,983MW allocated in the first three auctions.
In addition to sales, local project management and turbine service, Nordex is also helping people who are at a disadvantage for cultural/historical or health reasons via the Nordex Education Trust. This Trust helps them to gain access to education in an effort to facilitate integration.
