My Powerful Home to help consumers make informed decisions

Since the inception of Ellies Renewable Energy (ERE) in 2010, a core area of focus for Ellies was the empowerment of the consumer in the renewable energy field. After much research, results yielded that the home-owner felt helpless when faced with ever growing utility bills, and in finding the correct and trusted solution.
My Powerful Home to help consumers make informed decisions

In line with this and in order to educate, enable and empower consumers, ERE has released 'My Powerful Home', a book designed to aid consumers in taking control of energy solutions in the home environment. It is a perfect fit for the ERE approach and assists in consumers to make an informed decision.

"Consumers need to understand that the problem and solution lies with them," notes Shaun Worthmann, author of the book. "Only they can manage how and when power is consumed. It's about managing consumption and taking control of their space and their home utilities. This book will show readers how to do this in logical easy to follow steps."

Right choices

Targeted at home-owners across all the economic lines, the book has been written to assist consumers in understanding where they are consuming energy and educate them on how to make the right choices in technology and other interventions to become more energy efficient. Home-owners need to be smart in sourcing solutions and choosing the correct technology that will aptly suit their individual home's needs.

'My Powerful Home' is an easy to read guide that is neither product nor supplier specific. The book is divided into two sections, with the first section educating the home owner on energy consumption in the home whilst showcasing all the energy consuming devices in the home and the factors that influence them. The second part of the book takes the reader on a journey to explore all the ways in which they can generate electricity within their own control.

"We have launched the green store-within-a-store where home-owners can view the actual products, additional information and where they can purchase various products as part of their greening journey," adds Gary Wiltshire of ERE. "South Africans are starting to take a more positive stance on renewable energy, starting with simple solutions and slowly embracing more complicated technologies."
