Celebrate Women's Month with Eskom's charity fundraiser
"Every year the foundation selects a national charity as a beneficiary of this fundraising event with the view to leaving a sustainable legacy among organisations that support the more vulnerable members of society including children, the elderly and women," says Eskom Development Foundation NPC CEO Haylene Liberty-Nel.
Proceeds to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital
This year all proceeds raised will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital. The project is an initiative of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and they aim to raise R1bn to build this specialist paediatric centre in Parktown, Johannesburg. The hospital aims to embody former President Nelson Mandela's commitment to supporting and caring for South Africa's children.
The 200-bed hospital, which will operate as a non-profit organisation, will be a centre of excellence specialising in haematology/oncology, pulmonology, cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery, neurosciences, craniofacial, nephrology and general paediatric surgery.
"By supporting Joy & Jewels you will be contributing to the development of a vital new children's hospital and you can be sure that you will be playing a part in keeping former President Nelson Mandela's legacy alive," says Liberty-Nel.
Pamper sessions
In addition to this fundraising event, the foundation will be hosting two pamper sessions to celebrate women doing good work in their communities. In keeping with the focus on paediatric care, women who work with children in the health and wellness space are invited.
A range of women from the health sector, including nursing staff, care workers, cleaners and doctors, will have an opportunity to put up their feet up and be taken care of for just one day of the year.
One event will take place in Mmabatho and one in Bloemfontein and will offer these women a day of relaxation and pampering with a light lunch.
"We want to provide women from all walks of life with a chance to take time out of their day-to-day activities to be pampered and celebrated; but especially to thank them for the nurturing and care they provide to children in hospitals, by hosting these events during Women's Month," explains Liberty-Nel.
Joy & Jewels is taking place on Thursday, 7 August at the Polo Room in Inanda, Johannesburg. The event is a great opportunity for you and the lovely ladies in your life to enjoy time out with delicious food, a fashion show and pampering spa treatments. There will also be a thrilling auction with bespoke experiences on offer.
