Sony Ericsson is now all Sony

The joint venture between mobile phone company Ericsson and Sony is about to end after the Swedish telecommunications company announced that it would sell its 50% stake in the venture to Sony for €1,05-billion, according to The New Age.

Sony Ericsson will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony. Ericsson has been in trouble for a number of years and in 2001 it joined forces with Sony to try and rescue its mobile handset operations.

Ericsson's chief executive Hans Vestberg says the company will now concentrate on the wireless market and will use its research and development facilities and patent portfolio to build new businesses. However, the two companies will continue to work together.
