Greater scrutiny of top jobseekers
This was revealed Wednesday, 11 May 2016, by the CEO of the SA Qualification Authority, Joseph Samuels.
He said the increase could be as a result of awareness created by recent qualifications scandals, including that of SABC chief operations officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng and ANC stalwart Pallo Jordan.
Meanwhile, the authority's register containing names of people who have lied about their qualifications could soon be accessible to the public.
Samuels said the authority was working around the "legalities" involved in making the fraudulent and misrepresented qualifications offenders' register public.
The authority, in partnership with other African quality and qualification assurance agencies, will on Monday launch the African Qualification Verification Network.
The network, the first of its kind in Africa, will allow countries to combat qualifications fraud and help build trust in African qualifications.
Samuels said the growth and development of the continent had exposed African countries to people misrepresenting their qualifications to secure job opportunities.
