Since 2004, 43 people have benefited from the city's bursary scheme.

Chairman of the infrastructure, engineering and electricity portfolio, councillor Andile Mfunda, said: "This programme is extremely important as we not only give students an opportunity to study without the headache of worrying where the money for tuition will come from, they also get stipends while getting practical experience in the workplace. They are also assured of a job after successfully completing their studies."

The bursary applicants must be students already studying towards a BSc in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering.
