9 days left to register for WC 2020 school year
This follows the Western Cape Education Department's (WCED's) announcement on 15 February 2019 that parents only have until 15 March 2019 to register their children for Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8.
“This year the WCED also decided to put an online registration system on trial by identifying certain schools in the Western Cape for which parents can now register online,” says Carien Bloem, AfriForum’s Project Coordinator for Education.
“Parents can still also personally register at schools. AfriForum is however concerned that these two different registration methods could cause confusion in the system. Parents must therefore make sure that they apply to up to three schools of their choice,” adds Bloem.
Parents can find out at the following link whether the schools of their choice are part of the 350 schools that are listed on the online school registration system: https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za/admissions-201920
Should parents want to personally register at the schools of their choice, they must take along the following documents:
- birth certificate of child(ren);
- immunisation card;
- transfer letter (should the learner move to the Western Cape from another province);
- latest school report; and
- valid study permit, as issued by the Department of Home Affairs (should the learner be from outside South Africa).
Parents will be notified by 7 June 2019 about the school placement of their child(ren) and then have until 12 July 2019 to confirm the placement with the WCED.
