Art exhibition hosted for rare plant lovers
Detailed artwork of flowers and fruits, mushrooms and roots will be on display at the first botanical art exhibition to be held by the Gauteng branch of Botanical Artists of Southern Africa (BAASA). The exhibition will be held at the Morningside Shopping Centre in Johannesburg from 27-30 October. It will feature one of the biggest collections of botanical art to be held in Gauteng with many award-winning pieces.
Botanical art stands out from other genres because it is a mix of both science and art, and artists have to depict plants that are realistic down to the smallest detail. The exhibition opens on the night of 27 October with a talk by professor Ben-Erik van Wyk from the Department of Botany at the University of Johannesburg. There will also be guided walkabouts by botanical artist Ann Harris.
