Cape MIC announces speakers
Each masterclass is given by someone who is at the absolute pinnacle of the industry. They will be sharing their insights into what their job entails, what has and hasn't worked for them in the past, where they see their profession moving in the future, as well as answering questions from the audience.
Each of these events will be different and unique.
Clive Ridgeway
Clive Ridgeway is the founder of the Cape Town School of Songwriting and the author of Crack the Songwriting Code. He is an extremely successful songwriter, having written music for Jonathan Butler, Patricia Lewis, Dr Victor, Kurt Darren, Billy Forrest, Juanita du Plessis, Clive Bruce, Judith Sephuma, Rocking Horse, Cheree, Bev Scott-Brown, Freda Francis, Bobby Angel, and The Boyz.
He was also the programme director at Kfm and had a major influence in making it one of the most successful radio stations in the country. He was with the station for 17 years and, as programme director between 1999 and 2005, the station's listenership doubled.
Ridgeway knows what it takes to write good songs, to write songs for the radio and how to get them played on the radio. He is also a wonderful motivator and his classes are invigorating and inspiring.

Lara Preston
Preston is MD of Red Flag Design and Marketing. She has spent 15 years working in all aspects of music promotion and has been involved in the organisation of numerous live events as the marketing manager of CD Wherehouse, and in her time at Sound Zone productions creating the Band Slam national tour featuring the Springbok Nude Girls, Squeal, Sugardrive, Nine and Lithium.
At Red Flag she has extensive experience handling various elements of music marketing, strategy, branding and PR. She has worked with acts like Abdullah Ibrahim, Goldfish, Prodigy, Jozi, Pitch Black Afro, Balthazar (Belgium), Tim Moloi, Bliss ‘n Eso (Australia), Shaggy, Dirty Skirts, Cassette, Jimmy Dludlu, Kelly Khumalo and RootsRiders (Belgium).
Her expertise in marketing and PR in the music industry is nearly unsurpassed in South Africa. Her company was named Gallo Record Company's Supplier of the Year in 2008, was a finalist for the 702 Small Business Award in 2008 and was nominated twice in 2009 and 2010 for South African Music Awards.
