Freshly Ground to rock SenCity
What seems to be impossible, music events for the deaf, has taken on the world over. By stimulating all senses, SenCity makes it possible to give the deaf and hearing impaired a music experience that even hearing-able people can mark down as something they have never exprienced before.
SenCity has been held in seven countries around the globe thus far, including the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, Belgium, Miami, Mexico and even Jamaica! And now Skyway has chosen Cape Town to host the first SenCity event of its kind in Africa. SenCity Cape Town promises to be as great as the other events that Skyway has produced around the world. With the support of the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Cape Town, they have put together an amazing line-up of bands, DJs and VJs of the likes including Freshlyground, CODA, two international DJs from the Netherlands - DJ Chuckie and DJ Jaziah and several of the African Dope DJ Collective, namely Fletcher, Mix n Blend, Malone, P.H. Fat and Niskerone/Hyphen/sfr.
Besides the music, there will acrobats performing aerial stunts, deaf theatre, sign dancers and aroma jockeys on the day, all 100% imported from the Netherlands. There will be a variety of food and drink for the public and a movie zone besides. All this along with special sensory dance floors means that SenCity will be filled with experiential “happenings” designed to appeal to all the senses - sight, sound, touch, smell, taste and most importantly, perception.
For Cape Town this means the first of the SenCity experiences that will join the Skyway Foundation annual calendar of events around the world.
SenCity is set to take place on Friday, 6 March, 2009 in the Founders Garden, Foreshore (next to Artscape Theatre). Doors open at 8pm and tickets can be bought online at Web Tickets for R50 or at the door on the night.
