Karen Zoid, Kahn Morbee, Francois van Coke to feature at Republiek van Zoid Afrika

The Republiek van Zoid Afrika live arena concert will feature Karen Zoid alongside some of South Africa's top artists, on Friday, 15 June at the Sun Arena Times Square in Pretoria.

The concert will feature Karen Zoid, Vusi Mahlasela, Kahn Morbee, Francois van Coke, Zolani Mahola, Ross Learmonth, Jo Black as well as special guest appearances by legendary guitarist and music producer Theo Crous and Mielie Senekal, one of the favourite RZA characters.

Karen Zoid

Karen Zoid’s Republiek van Zoid Afrika (kykNET) has fast become a firm favourite when it comes to local television, showcasing interviews and musical collaborations with a variety of prolific South Africans.

Her music has, without a doubt, shaped our culture and she has dominated the airwaves for the past decade. She has received numerous music and television awards and has had more than 32 number one hit singles on iTunes. Zoid has shared the stage with the likes of Annie Lennox, John Mayer and Metallica.

Francois van Coke

Van Coke rose to fame as the iconic front man of legendary South African rock band Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel. In April 2015, Van Coke launched his self-titled debut solo album and kicked his solo career into gear with the release of the most poignant ballad of that year – Toe Vind Ek Jou – featuring Karen Zoid.

Zolani Mahola (Freshlyground)

Mahola is the lead singer for the legendary group Freshlyground. After the band released their second album, Nomvula, in 2004, The Sunday Times described her as one of South Africa's most inspiring singers.

Kahn Morbee (The Parlotones)

After 19 years of fronting multi-SAMA-winning rock/pop band The Parlotones, Kahn Morbee launched his solo career performing as K A H N, with his debut album being nominated for a SAMA award. The Parlotones have headlined the 20,000-seater Coca Cola Dome and performed at many European and American music festivals with, among others, the Kings of Leon, Imagine Dragons and The Cure.

Jo Black

Jo Black grew up in Pretoria North and started working after school. He ran his own construction company for eight years before realising that there is more to life than just work. Wanting to empower people to be the best version of themselves, Jo launched the Be that Guymovement which took off instantly and fast became an overnight success. His debut single Skepe was launched in 2016 and reached over a million hits on Youtube within five months. The album with the same title won the SAMA Award for Best Contemporary Album (2018).

Vusi Mahlasela

Vusi is a South African singer-songwriter fondly referred to as "The Voice" of South Africa, with themes including the struggle for freedom, forgiveness and reconciliation. Vusi has released seven studio albums in South Africa and was signed to Dave Matthews' ATO Records in 2003.

Ross Learmonth (Prime Circle)

Ross is the front man of South African rock stalwarts Prime Circle. Formed in Witbank in 2001, Prime Circle have demonstrated unparalleled staying power with a dynamic signature sound that continues to evolve in exciting, progressive directions. Their six albums have all reached gold or platinum status and the band has won several SAMA awards and was nominated for Best Artist in African Rock at the All Africa Music Awards.
