#MusicExchange: Colin Sher

Since opening in 2015, he has worked with a number of artists including Jimmy Nevis, Danny K, Mark Haze, Shen FM, Chad Saaiman and projects with the likes of Matthew Gold, Lakota Silva, Ifani, Janice, Howard Edward, Dum Chang, and Ali that Dude, Alt Ego.

I caught up with him last week to find out what music means to him and more…

When are you the happiest?

Some of the happiest moments I have experienced in music has included playing my own original music in front of a crowd of reactive listeners, but nothing beats the feeling of hearing my work randomly on radio.

What does the music mean to you?

Music is a feeling I get from nothing else, it is also now my livelihood, and my future, but most importantly it's a way of expressing what I have inside.

Have you had any funny moments on stage?

When I was younger, I once turned the master knob down on the DJ mixer thinking it was the cue/mix knob for headphones, which was the neighboring knob on that mixer. The mistake resulted in a silent club dance floor for five seconds while I figured out what I had done.

Who are your heroes? 

David Guetta has taken electronic music to the commercial masses and that has been my biggest inspiration. Locally my heroes are Ryan Murgatroid, Black Coffee and my dad.

Which living person do you admire most and why?

Jonny Clegg. What he did for South African music against many rules is an inspiration to anyone trying to bridge the gap between cultures in music.

It's your round, what are you drinking?

Definitely Hunters with ice, and a slice of lemon.

What would you dream gig to do?

Ultra! And closing party in Ibiza.

What are your nicknames?

Cricket field - Huss
Music industry - Cosh/Cosher

If you were not a musician what would you do?

I would go back to cricket.

Driven, hyper- active, fair, genuine, loud

What would your five desert island discs be?

Ludovico Einaudi, Thievery Convention, Bump 15, A State of Trance, and The Eminem Show.

What is your favorite fashion garment?

A Resistance Denim Jacket made by my friend that was a gift for my birthday

What do you complain about most often?

When people’s lack of punctuality affects me.

What do you tend to do on stage?

Hope that no one judge’s my dance moves.

Where would you like to be right now?

I wouldn't mind being on a beach in south East Asia, but my studio and control room is a close second.
