More acts confirmed for Cape Town Nu World Festival
Austria-based Turkish singer Özlem Bulut will captivate audiences with her catchy chorus lines and oriental rhythms. Her unique style is enriched by jazzy improvisations and her powerful vocal range. One of Bulut's musical aims is to reframe the conventional picture of oriental music, to bring together elements from the Orient and Occident in order to provide a new understanding of the beauty of the Turkish language.
Joining the Turkish talent will be the DJ duo Spoko vs Spoek. The Township Funk hero DJ Spoko with his eclectic range of influences will transfix audiences, along with his good friend and musical guru, Spoek. Together they will bring fans a taste of traditional Zulu maskandi music with Shangaan electro, hip hop, punk, electronica and more.
Lastly comes the immensely talented Vukhazithathe. Hailing from the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, Vukhazithathe is a musical jack of all trades. He is best known for his impressive guitar riffs, lightning speed vocals and evocative lyrical storytelling. Vukhazithathe's multi-instrumental and distinct Maskandi sound will surely delight crowds of all musical tastes.
Wild & Wise
Themed Wild & Wise, audiences can expect to see musical collaborations between local and international musical legends paired with raw, original and up-and-coming artists.
"Our offering this year will be far more diverse and Afrocentric. The calibre of music will rise, the festival layout will be more accommodating with a larger seated stage and an outdoor electronic stage," said event director Maor Harris. The festival will also host a number of TED-style talks, more yet-to-be-revealed artists and a programme of workshops.
