Raise your teacups
Once upon a time, on a forested farm in Helderstroom, both young and old threw on their fanciest threads to raise their teacups to a summer well spent ...
No fomo here, they came in droves,
To a magical setting among the groves.
The trees had eyes, but no judgement was passed,
The robot exclaimed: "We're all mad here at last!"
Everything AND the kitchen sink,
The basin, the TV, no art set in ink.
Wonderland had come to life,
Led by the Mad Hatter and his fife!
Fairies and princesses in fly-away wings,
These were some of my favourite things:
"Dainty little dinosaurs and a mermaid," she cooed,
Bunnies in sunnies, a masquerade ensued.
A walking, talking table and tea set roamed round,
With Tinkerbell in tow, her feet firmly on ground.
Tutus and top hats, tattoos in trade,
Don't ask: Where's Wally? He was with us in spades!
The Queen of Hearts in grace she appeared,
Not at this flamjangled hoo-ha was she to be feared.
Hippies and townsies, they all flocked together,
A peacock, a panda, Geronimo in leather.
Very much so a family affair,
No cussing they said, don't you dare swear.
But hula hoop to your heart's delight,
And revel, revel in the colours so bright.
Escape the sun, but not too far to retreat,
Splash around in the dam or just wet your feet.
Yoga for breakfast, music for your thirst,
Move to the beats, nothing is rehearsed.
Los Tacos, BamBeano, Arriba! Arriba!
Dare to drop the grapefruit and you drink tequila!
Dance with your lover, your friend, your sisters,
No time for squabbles, tend later to those blisters.
Step into the little disco box,
Not the Miniscule of Sound indeed, but damn, it rocks!
Hush down now for the quietest of parties,
Tune through the channels and jam with ye hearties.
Oh no! Oh no! Another end is suddenly here,
The birds are chirping, it's time to clear.
Off we go to Cape Town where the air's less fair,
With new friends in mind, and fabulous stories to share.
The Tea Party took place 27 to 29 March on Elandskloof Farm in Helderstroom, Western Cape. For more info, go to www.theteaparty.co.za.
