Registration for ACT performing arts scholarship open

The Arts and Culture Trust (ACT), in association with Nedbank and the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation (DALRO), annually makes an amount of R210 000 available for two performing arts scholarships.

The scholarships programme, now in its fourth year, is open for participation by Grade 12 learners. Undergraduates who are not registered for a degree during 2012, and who are older than 18 and younger than 25 years of age, are also eligible for participation. The closing date for registrations is 31 May 2012.

Competent in three disciplines

Candidates will be assessed on their acting, dancing and singing ability. To secure a spot in the final round of the competition participants will be required to demonstrate competence in all three disciplines, with exceptional talent in at least one. The two winners will be at liberty to select their preferred performing arts course at any accredited South African tertiary institution.

Auditions will take place in Grahamstown at the National Schools Festival on Monday, 9 July followed by regional rounds hosted in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, 10 July, in Johannesburg on Friday, 13 and Saturday, 14 July, in Cape Town on Friday, 20 and Saturday, 21 July and closing off with final auditions in Durban on Friday, 28 July.

The final round of the competition, scheduled to take place on Thursday, 4 October will be hosted by UJ Arts and Culture at the University of Johannesburg. Download the ACT/DALRO/Nedbank Scholarships Guidelines to register.
