Biltong & Potroast back for one-off show at The Greenside

The Greenside Theatre, Joburg, will host a one-off no-holds-barred evening of comedy with the Biltong & Potroast team on 15 June, 2011. The show is adult comedy and is not for the faint-hearted and not necessarily for the fairer sex.

This one-night-only performance harks back to the team's best-known performance in Durban in the late 1970s, where a bootleg tape was recorded by a fan and went on to sell over 200 000 copies worldwide!

Featuring three of the original cast members: Mel Miller, Cyril Green and Eddie Eckstein, and featuring Alain D Woolf alongside ringmaster Joe Parker, Biltong & Potroast is set to take audiences on a no-holds-barred trip back to the dawn of South African stand-up comedy.

    Improvisation

Having accumulated over 200 years of comedy experience between them, Miller, Green and Eckstein reprise the roles which made the television show a must-see during the early days of South African broadcasting. Biltong & Potroast was devised in 1975 to pit South Africa's finest comedians against comics from Europe in an improvisational contest in which host Clackie McKay handed out points based on the quality of their jokes on a series of randomly selected topics.

Dirty words that most have forgotten

While the cast of comics aim to roll back the years for those who loved the television series, they won't shy away from tackling content relevant to life in South Africa in the 21st century. Cyril Green promises an evening of outrageous, old-school comedy for fans. "The art of telling a good joke is a dying one, but we're bringing back gags in a big way," he said. "We've also been around long enough that we remember dirty words that most people have forgotten too - and we'll be using them all at the show!"

The Biltong & Potroast show is on for one night only on 15 June, 2011, at The Greenside Theatre. The show kicks off at 7.30pm, with tickets priced at R300 - which includes a free beer mug on presentation of ticket, snacks and lucky draw prizes.

Tickets are available via the venue's website at www.thegreenside.co.za or through the box office on +27 (0)11 880 5720 or +27 (0)11 447 7701. The Greenside Theatre is at 7a Chester Road, Greenside East.
