Paul Snodgrass is so lonely

I think the Baxter main concert arena might be my new favourite place to hear bands, not surprisingly they have really great acoustics and hearing Taxi Violence belt it out as opener to Paul Snodgrass comedy routine was a great pleasure. After an electrifying performance of Jim's Revenge and Devil n' Pistol, Mr Snodgrass took to the stage and growled out an intense number, which basically consisted of him repeating I'm so lonely like a coked up and angry Axel Rose.
Paul Snodgrass is so lonely

If you have been to any recent music festivals no doubt you have seen the cute hobbit-like MC Paul Snodgrass screaming at you to from the stage in-between bands. It is pretty obvious that the guy is very passionate about championing SA music, which was obvious by his choice of inviting Taxi Violence to join the show. Though discussions on music didn't really get much of a mention in his routine. Beside a few references to Guns ‘n Roses (Guns ‘n Roses fuck yeeeah) and some reminders of those cheesy disco numbers from cringe-worthy school disco socials, the show was pretty much about the mating habits of the young male and the difference between the sexes.

Hardly original material I know, but Snodgrass delivered it so well and on such a personal level you couldn't help but crack up while totally empathising with the guy. As a UCT drama graduate Snodgrass (love typing that name, how can you not be funny with a surname like Snodgrass) brought a fair amount of drama to his routine, from acting out dances and conversations with his first love Cindy (of the glittery origami letters) to impersonating a typical UCT rugby Rondebosch jock, he took us through the history of his relationships and often confusion when trying to understand the fairer sex. (Yes I know it's ridiculous but women do need at least five different types of moisturisers.)

Incredibly real and raw Paul Snodgrass' I'm so lonely is a comedy show well worth seeing. Like all good comedians he taps into the everyday milestones and occurrences that we all go through, renders them to be quite ridiculous and then injects them with a good dose of humour. So don't let Mr Snodgrass stay lonely and go and catch his last two shows at the Baxter.

I'm so lonely runs at the Baxter Theatre on 12 & 13 March at 8.15pm. On 13 March, well-known singer/songwriter and photographer Andy Lund will guest with Paul Snodgrass instead of Taxi Violence.
