Premier challenged farmers: use training centre to turn NW into SA's bread basket

North West Premier Thandi Modise challenged stakeholders in the agriculture sector to fully utilise the newly launched Kgora Farmers' Training Centre to make the province the bread basket of South Africa and the continent at large, The New Age reports. Modise spoke at the opening of the centre in Ramatlabama village, near Mahikeng.

"We have to rise up-to the occasion and be counted as a province that is combating poverty," Modise said, adding that agricultural skills transfer is a non-negotiable priority. "This time the farmers' training model is modified to suit the needs of a developmental state."

Modise pointed out that agriculture has been identified as a key pillar for economic growth, aimed at providing empowerment opportunities for the people of the North West Province. According to The New Age, Kgora is set to serve as a world class accredited institution providing smallholder farmers with capacity-building training both for subsistence and food production.
