Showcasing South Africa's burgeoning jewellery design industry
Diamond and tanzanite merchants, First Diamonds, and privately-owned precious metal refiner Metal Concentratos (MetCon), are collaborating on an invite-only event in Cape Town to support and celebrate the South African jewellery design industry.
Winning platinum pieces from the PlatAfrica 2018 competition will be available for sale as well as the exhibition of work from up-and-coming BEE jewellers. The newly announced showcase hosted by First Diamonds and MetCon will be set against the backdrop of First Diamonds’ studio in Bree Street, with a percentage of the proceeds from the evening benefiting of The Children’s Hospital Trust.
PlatAfrica is the South African institution that launched the annual jewellery design and manufacture competition 20 years ago, to celebrate the versatility, structural superiority, and aesthetic timelessness of the precious metal platinum. The competition provides both emerging and established South African jewellers the chance to develop and showcase their creativity.
2018’s theme, Blessings of Love, celebrated female empowerment and the significant milestones in the lives of women and those closest to them. The competition was hosted by Anglo American Platinum in close collaboration with Metal Concentrators and Platinum Guild International (PGI) India.
Says Heidi Wahl of First Diamonds, “We are delighted to partner with MetCon and the many talented designers that showcased their skills and interpretations for the theme- and this year we look forward to giving back, adding a second meaning to the theme, Blessings of Love."
The exclusive event will take place on Thursday, 14 March 2019.
