Lose weight after the festive season

The New Year evokes vows to make lifestyle changes, and one such popular resolution is to 'start eating healthy and lose weight'. American Fitness Professionals & Associates reports that only about 20% of people keep their fitness resolutions each year.

One of the reasons for this is because bank balances are still reeling from Christmas shopping and spending during the holiday; and people deem buying healthy food as yet another expenditure. In light of this, Weigh-Less has introduced 'Recipes for under R10 per serve' in the December/January issue of The Weigh-Less Magazine to help readers reach their goal without a hefty price tag.

The common perception about healthy food is that it requires ingredients which are costly, and can't be found at your local grocer. The Weigh-Less Magazine dispels this perception by launching three delicious recipes. The magazine includes a recipe for 'Tuna Fish Cakes', which includes succulent tuna and potatoes rolled in fresh breadcrumbs for a crisp perfection, and works out to 'under R10 per serve'.

Another recipe is 'Rosemary and Tomato Chicken', which are chicken thighs marinated in fragrant rosemary, perfect for a simple and cost effective Sunday lunch. Also included is a scrumptious 'Toad in the Hole' recipe, which incorporates quality pork sausages enrobed in freshly baked pastry. These recipes are based on the sound nutritional principles standard to Weigh-Less eating plans, and will allow you to have good food whilst getting value for your money.

Make healthy eating choices your lifestyle

Life coach and psychologist Sean Harder lists 'yo-yo dieting' as another cause of people straying from weight-loss resolutions made. He says there is evidence that 'yo-yo dieting' is worse for your health than being moderately overweight. The solution lies in making healthy eating choices your lifestyle, find a way to develop a lifestyle of eating and exercise that you will implement permanently.

Harder has the following tips to help people avoid fad diets and lose weight the healthy way in 2012:

Drink plenty of water, eat several mini-meals during the day, eat protein at every meal, always eat breakfast and focus on portion sizes.

These tips are easy to follow as they are activities which can easily be incorporated into daily life. Chairman and founder of Weigh-Less, Mary Holroyd believes that when resolutions to lose weight go off track, the key to success is being patient with yourself.

"Shift your focus from the negative to the positives; in that if you cheat after a few days of eating healthy, don't tell yourself that you'll never make it. Instead forgive yourself and look at your mistakes as an opportunity to improve on yourself rather than letting them define you."
