Your chance to see the stars!
No, not the ones at the Oscars… these are stars of a different sort… take a trip to Sutherland to view the universe.
From 7-8 March, Iziko Museums will be hosting an excursion to the Sutherland Observatory, home of the South African Large Telescope.
Led by astrophysicist, Prof Emeritus Brian Warner, the event is a must for anyone fascinated with the universe, the great outdoors and its geology, and the stark beauty of the Karoo. Sutherland offers the world's clearest skies for stargazing while the museums of Matjiesfontein, where the group will be spending time, is essential for anyone with a sense of history.
The cost of the event, which forms part of Iziko's Summer School program, is R1000. Participants will need to provide their own transport and will meet at the Matjiesfontein Coffee House at 10:00 on Saturday, 7 March. Guests will overnight at the Sutherland Hotel and enjoy a hearty country dinner and breakfast.
