World Cup show jumping qualifier a success
Spectators came in droves to watch the FEI Cape Town World Cup qualifier events last weekend at Glenellen Farm, Hout Bay, Cape Town, despite inclement weather. Neriske Prinsloo from Gauteng on Bill Clinton rode to victory in the final leg of the South African league.
Having already won three of her classes and second in the SA League rankings, it was bound to be a nail biting finish.
Prinsloo and veteran Dominy Alexander on Capital Shiraz showed their skills as they vied for top place in the overall league in this final leg. In a magnificent display Prinsloo secured this leg of the qualifier with Alexander taking overall honours for the South African League. Victor Ludorum went to Alexander and Leading Lady in the open section was won by Lara Bechet
State-of-the-art jumps
Over the five days of the show spectators were treated to a superb display of show jumping on a challenging course with state-of-the-art jumps imported from Germany by Frank Rothenberger, considered the world's top course designer.
Sunday was the big day for the finals and 13 of the top riders qualified for the Fancourt World Cup qualifier. When Prinsloo achieved a clear round with only one penalty for exceeding the time, she went on to the second round with the final five riders and her place was secured.
Enthusiastic and supportive
This is the third year that established Western Province show jumper Judy Louw and her team have hosted the show.
"Despite the rain we had as many, if not more, visitors than last year," Louw said, "and the spectators were enthusiastic and supportive. The sun shone for the finals and the crowd was given a superb show of top-class riding. Whilst this has been challenging year in which to put together this event we are confident that we will be able to do this again next year. We are determined that Cape Town becomes the number one venue for international events."
