Horner to compete at Duesouth Xterra Knysna
Horner has wanted to race Xterra Knysna since his introduction into the sport of Xterra four years ago. "So far all my attempts to race Xterra Knysna have been foiled by some or other obstacle. One year I crashed during training and cracked my ribs, the following year I was on a Europe Tour and last year I'd just got married. I am really excited to finally be able to race my first Xterra Knysna. Over the past few months I've focussed more on my mountain biking and running. As a result I've become relatively strong in these two disciplines. The fact that Xterra Knysna takes the form of a duathlon (run/bike/run) apposed to the standard triathlon (swim/bike/run) will definitely add a new dimension to the race as competitors that are not swim specialists will be able to shine. I think Pezula is an awesome venue for Xterra and because the event falls within the Oyster Festival I think it will create a great atmosphere for athletes and spectators alike. The beauty of Xterra is that it is never boring and as a competitor you constantly have to stay focussed and be aware of what's around the next corner. I am now motivated more than ever and can't wait to compete in Knysna," he said.
Entries open
Entries are still open for the Duesouth Xterra Knysna. The 2010/2011 Series consists of three events taking place first in Knysna, then the North West Province, before culminating in the Western Cape in 2011 in the form of the Duesouth Xterra South African finals. The local series forms part of the Xterra World Tour and athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for the world championship final in Hawaii.
The Knysna leg is the only DUESOUTH XTERRA event that does not feature a water discipline. Athletes can participate individually or in teams of two.
