Yellow Pages Series Final at Ekurhuleni

Athletics South Africa announced today that the final meeting of the 2009 Yellow Pages Series will take place in Germiston at Ekurhuleni on Friday and all indications are that the present Series will end on a high note.

South Africa's top athletes will be in action in a large variety of events and they will not only strive to reach the IAAF A qualifying standard for the IAAF World Championships in Berlin in August this year but will also use the meeting to fine tune their preparations for the Yellow Pages SA Senior Championships in Stellenbosch on 13 and 14 March.

An added flavour to the meeting will be the participation of a number of top athletes from Mauritius and Saudi Arabia on the track while a number of Germany's top hammer throwers, currently on a training camp in South Africa, will also take part. All these athletes will provide stiff opposition for their South African counterparts.

The Mauritian group in the men's sprints includes world class athletes in Stephan Buckland and Eric Milazar while the Saudi team, coached by South African Hennie Kotze, will participate in the hurdles, sprints and 400m events for men.

Khotso Mokoena will be in action in the long jump and a good distance can be expected from him while Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, after successful outings in the 1500m, will participate in his favourite 800m event for the first time this season.

Other top male performances can come from Ofenste Mogawane and Zimbabwe's Talkmore Nyongani in the 400m, Janus Robberts in the shot put, Hannes Hopley in the discus and Shaun Bownes in the 110m hurdles.

Tsholofelo Thipe and Isabel le Roux will star in the women's sprints while Janet Wienand and Malaysian, Noraseela Khalid, will fight it out in the 400m hurdles. Elizna Naude (discus), Sunette Viljoen (javelin) and Janice Josephs (long jump) will be the main attractions in the women's field events.
