    Parnell makes Proteas debut

Wayne Parnell becomes the third newcomer to make his debut for the Proteas Standard Bank limited overs squad on this tour in the second T20 ODI against Australia at the Gabba on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old left-handed allrounder will take the place of Lonwabo Tsotsobe who made his debut in the first T20 match on Sunday night at the MCG. In two other changes to the Melbourne XI Hashim Amla takes the place of Jacques Kallis and Morne Morkel replaces Makhaya Ntini.

“It was always our plan to give every player in the squad at least one match,” explained coach Mickey Arthur. “We will certainly need to continue rotating the bowlers at the least in the ODIs,” added Arthur.

“There is a lot of cricket coming up when we get home for the return series against Australia and we must take the anticipated workload of the bowlers into account and make sure that they are fresh and ready to go.”

Arthur said that the current series was vitally important looking ahead to the ICC World T20 in England in June. “The players we have here have the first bite of the cherry in terms of selection for that tournament.”

AB de Villiers, who suffered severe bruising of the thigh in Sunday night's match, has been included in Tuesday's match XI. Physiotherapist Shane Jabaar indicated that he might be required to undergo a fitness test.

    Proteas' starting XI:

Johan Botha (capt), Hashim Amla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Dale Steyn, Vaughn van Jaarsveld.
