Debut album from The Nomadic Orchestra

The Cape Town-based instrumental dance band The Nomadic Orchestra have just released their debut album, Move Your Things, which features material comprising every era of the band's existence since their inception in 2009. The band recorded the album at Sound & Motion Studios in Cape Town with Simon "Fuzzy" Ratcliffe.
Debut album from The Nomadic Orchestra

The band was initially created to play at the 2009 Balkanology - Resurrection, a Cape Town-based Balkan festival. They are known for their high-energy dance music with a wide range of traditional and contemporary influences, with a lot of solos and frantic bouncing. The members all come from a strong jazz background, thus they place emphasis on instrumental melodies and solos. Being an instrumental band also opens them up for collaborating with vocalists from other groups, like The Sound Supreme Kingz and Gertjie Besselsen from Mr Cat & The Jackal on this offering.

Forget the grind of everyday life

Their aim is to make people dance and forget, even if only for a moment, the grind of everyday life. The lack of a vocal message allows for a broader, more cross-cultural appeal. The band wanted to entertain audiences with the cover for "Move Your Things", so they came up with the idea of making a "Where's Wally?" for adults, which shows various little scenarios of people moving their things. If you study the cover, you will find all the band members, featured guest artists and the team involved with the band. The illustration was done by Stuart Coutts, an up-and-coming South African artist.

The band is currently working on some music video ideas and hopes to put out a video soon. They are planning on starting work on their next album and also touring outside of South Africa within the next two years.
