There is something so beautiful about the lines that one can make with one's body and the way they make something so difficult look completely effortless.
There were dancers from Korea, Japan, Ireland, Canada, Cuba, Australia and South Africa. Each piece had me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting and wanting more. You could feel the collective goosebumps as dancer after dancer mesmerised us in a world of elegance and beauty. The women were exquisite and the men had the graceful strength to compliment every move they made.
We were, as the audience members, all blessed to be able to see something so magnificent and so utterly breathtaking. And when you realise that the dancer is South African, well the pride is indescribable. The final dance was done to Waka Waka and it simply brought back memories of the world cup and the unity of our people and that, I suppose, is a fundamental part of ballet - being a unit not only with your partner but the entire company.
The event was held at the Grand West Arena and was funded by the National Lottery. Grand West once again out-did themselves; a venue can make or break the atmosphere created by a performance and ofcourse the arena makes it every time.
So do I enjoy ballet? Yes, I believe I do. Would I watch it again? You bet I will!
