[Loeries 2009] Velocity keeps Loeries burning at Ignite

So you think you can party, dance and drink? If you think you can, then the Velocity Party was the place to be on Friday, 25 September 2009. Themed "Party like a rock star", the shindig was held at Ignite in Camps Bay as one of many parties at the Loerie Awards 2009.

So what can one imagine to see at a party like this? Well, on arrival I was welcomed by two lovely ladies, strolled down the red carpet and then offered a shot of Patron flavoured tequila by a statue-like model.

Accustomed to partying once the sun goes down, I found myself lingering under the sun, admiring the stunning view of the ocean, in the middle of the day. I must say that this is definitely not the simple life - it was like watching an episode of The Hills. Totally hip and happening, the notorious Velocity Party had the crowd dressed in summer gear, even though it was fairly overcast.

The smooth beats played by the DJ had the invited guests bouncing their heads while chatting to colleagues and friends from other agencies. While walking around to see if there was anyone recognisable, I was offered a drink by another statue-like model and to my surprise, I see blow up dolls tied up around a pole. It was a weird combination having blow up dolphins swinging above. I get that the theme is "Party like a rockstar", but dolphins?

I head over to this magical bar, made of ice, yes...real ice, luckily the heat isn't that bad. Here I find martini glasses filled with some other concoction, only to sip and find out, it is more tequila. Now you know, you have to at least have had something in your tummy to stomach this amount of alcohol before enjoying yourself to the max., and, out of nowhere, pops a waiter to serve some delicious canapés - I'm still thinking that I should have had just one more spring roll.

By now the party is about half way through when the guests start to head to the dance floor to break it down - laughter, smiles and just funny people!

Now you know something isn't right when you have bare-chested guys dressed in black lingerie-looking outfits and heels; these guys were such crowd-pleasers though by providing shots of tequila in syringes.

One other fun thing to do, was get dressed up in much-fun accessories and get your pic snapped in a booth, and printed right there and then for you to take home as evidence of the fun time you had - all courtesy of Bouffant. This, I think, is a pretty funky idea to keep your guests smiling.

If this was just the beginning of the Loeries weekend, then bring it on. I want to party like a rockstar more often!

Editors note: Keep an eye open for Leroy the Loeries penguin who we met at last years Loeries and bumped into again at the Velocity party.
