BASA hosts project management workshop

Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) will host a workshop aimed specifically at improving project management skills within arts organisations. Taking place on 19 October 2013 at the Joburg Theatre, the workshop will be run by Modise Moiloanyane, head of the Head of Black Management Forum Gauteng.

Currently a senior manager/principal consultant at KPMG Management Consulting, Moiloanyane brings considerable experience to the workshop based on his work in improving the operational effectiveness of both public and private clients.

"There are numerous reasons why project management is crucial to arts organisations," comments Moiloanyane.

"One of these is the fact that arts organisations operate in a difficult environment as they mainly rely on external funding for their projects. Frequently, the organisations also lack the internal skills that can assist them to plan and execute their arts projects efficiently, within the limited budget."

The upcoming BASA project management workshop will explore ways in which arts organisations can improve their planning processes as well as ways of achieving more, with limited resources.

Falling under the BASA Education programme, supported by Etana, the BASA project management workshop is open to participants who are in charge of projects and their management (including logistics and finance) within a registered art organisation that has been operating for at least three years.

As part of the workshop, participants will need to complete a project plan as well as commit to taking part in the follow-up session, which will be held in November.

"The idea of two sessions built around a project plan really gives workshop participants the chance to get feedback on their specific project management issues - a valuable exercise for arts organisations," says Moiloanyane.
