Marin's rides Lama onto local soil

The multimillion dollar point of sale corporation, Marin's, has landed on local ground. Based in France, the company is investing in South Africa with an aim to place the country in the forefront of economic and technological advancement.

The company is known for its development of the 'Lama', an 80% biodegradable photo-realistic fold-out cardboard advertising display.

The corporation has 750 clients globally including brands such as Nutella, Kellogg's, Heineken, L'Oreal and Axe; and has already secured deals with South African-based companies namely Colgate, Plascon, Multichoice, Western Union, Brandhouse, and Samsung.

In the country for not more than six months now, Marin's has already set up offices in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, creating employment opportunities for printers, distributors and transporters in South Africa. Furthermore, their networks in Africa include Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Angola, Zambia and Mauritius which has inevitably placed Southern Africa on the global map.

Says President of Marin's Southern Africa, Derek Smit, "Never has Southern Africa seen such a spectacular innovation. Marin's is not only allowing for companies to see advertising in a new light, but also for South Africa to embark on an exchange of prime creative, innovative and business ideas. We are proud to be at the forefront of such innovation and technology."

Smit added that such success can be attributed to the remarkable effect of the ‘Lama': “[It] makes for profitable output as it folds up in 30 seconds...reduces the omission of Co2 and reduces transport costs considerably.

"We are thrilled with our investment in Southern Africa and are confident that we will be as successful as our international partners in the coming years.”
