Finalists in kids photo competition
The nine finalists in the NG Kids Young Photographers Competition, which attracted over 1200 entries, can be seen in the February 2010 issue, out now.
The competition, sponsored by Spur Steak Ranches, invited kids 14 years and younger to participate in the competition categories of animals, people and my environment. For the first time, there was an MMS category for cellphone entries.
“Judging was no easy task,” says editor Fiona Thomson, “but the finalists' photos were exceptional in terms of conception and execution.” The finalists won digital cameras from Nikon; Spur meal vouchers and magazine subscriptions and will have their work displayed at selected Spur Steak Ranches nationwide.
NG Kids South Africa and NG Junior in Slovenia collaborated on a cultural travelling exchange programme for the winners of their respective competitions. The grand prize includes a trip for two to visit each other's country, courtesy of the Slovenia honorary consul in South Africa and sponsor companies in each country.
The winner of the competition will be announced in the March issue and will travel to Slovenia with its picturesque mountains and coastline, taking pictures along the way with a state-of-the-art Nikon D5000 camera.
The Spur Groups' creative director, Juanita Stead, says, “I am always delighted and inspired by the talented youngsters in South Africa. It is such a pleasure to support this excellent initiative with NG Kids.”
