SimpliVity bringing hyperconvergence to southern Africa

As part of it's 40 cities, 20 countries "Get Hyperconverged" tour with the aim to bring "true hyperconvergence" to the world, SimpliVity recently toured Johannesburg.

The future of IT is hyperconvergence

Together with its distributor, Networks Unlimited, the Johannesburg leg of the tour focused on how SimpliVity's technology addresses the new, rapidly growing data centre transformation trend. In particular, the tour highlighted the solution's capability to provide a unique Data Virtualisation Platform delivered on hyperconverged infrastructure, which reduces IO per second (IOPS), optimises capacity, and improves operational efficiency.

SimpliVity, which burst onto the scene in 2013, following a 48-month development period, has already been placed in the Visionaries quadrant of the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Integrated Systems. Christo Briedenhann, regional sales director for South Africa and Africa at SimpliVity, led the session and pointed out that the company provides a radical simplification by consolidating infrastructure functionality into a single unified stack running on hyperconverged x86 building blocks.

"These are delivered at a fraction of the cost when taking purchase price and TCO into consideration. Furthermore, it also radically reduces complexity. Deploying a network of two or more OmniCubes creates a global federation that facilitates efficient data movement, resource sharing, and scalability," he said.

SimpliVity's data architecture addresses data efficiency and global management requirements in virtualised and cloud computing environments.

During the Johannesburg tour, it was shown exactly how the Data Virtualisation Platform achieves:

• VM-centricity by tracking what data belongs to which virtual machine, and enabling VM-mobility.
• High performance and capacity efficiency by eliminating redundancy via deduplication, compression, and optimisation of data at inception.
• Integrated data protection, including built-in virtual machine (VM) backup and efficient replication between primary and disaster recovery (DR) sites.
• Global federated management across multiple-node and multiple-site federations.

Virtualisation has changed everything

"The explosion of data is creating real and massive challenges for organisations worldwide. Virtualisation has changed everything. SimpliVity offers a new disruptive way of doing IT, creating dramatic efficiencies in your business environment," explained Briedenhann.

"SimpliVity's hyperconverged infrastructure allows you to realise the economies and agility of large-scale web companies, right in your own data centre. With our solution, you can address your most challenging performance, capacity, and scale issues with a pay-as-you-grow building block to IT infrastructure. Not only does it simplify IT, but reduces TCO by times three, and provides your IT organisation with the agility to keep pace with business demands. Simply put, the future of IT is hyperconvergence," he added.
