The acquisition was expected to increase the production capacity of Nestlé's coffee creamer. The new facility will manufacture the well-known Cremora brand of coffee creamer, adding capacity to the existing creamer manufacturing facility in Babelegi, in Gauteng. "The investment is aligned to Nestlé's ambition to stimulate job creation and add value to the communities where we do business," spokesperson Ravi Pillay said in a statement.
The company employs about 4 000 employees and it had attained Level 4 black economic-empowerment contributor status. The Potchefstroom factory is the company's tenth manufacturing facility in South Africa. According to Engineering News Online, Nestlé South Africa MD and Chairperson Sullivan O'Carroll said the Potchefstroom launch demonstrated the company's ongoing commitment to foreign direct investment. "This launch [is] in line with our long-term commitment to business sustainability and economic development in South Africa and the rest of the African continent." In three years, Nestlé will celebrate a centenary of doing business in South Africa.
