Property investors from across Africa gather to assess the sector's prospects and hear speakers addressing the theme 'Property on the Red Carpet'.
"It's a reference to the sector's recovery in the post-recession economy, to the qualities and resilience of property, especially when compared to other more risky assets. The conference will also ask whether there is a structural move towards real estate globally. The SA REITS will also be a strong focus over the two day conference," says IPD SA MD Stan Garrun.
Local and global experts will examine four key themes over the course of the two-day conference.
The first theme is 'Back from the Brink', which sets the stage for property investment in the post-recession era. Facilitated by journalist and TV host David Williams, the discussion will review global economic events and spotlight the prognosis for investment in Africa.
Next, speakers will tackle 'Real Estate in a Changing World', by assessing the post-recession risk and scarcity paradigm in a limited growth scenario, looking towards property as a hard asset with strong and reliable cash flows. Among others, speakers Bruce McGlogan, senior manager private equity at the Maitland Group and Simon Fairchild, MD of IPD North America, will bring an international perspective to the discussion.
'A time for war and a time for peace' will spotlight changes in the asset allocation process, the impact on property investment, and on adding value through governance, green initiatives and public sector property initiatives.
The final theme, Property on the Red Carpet, ties all the sessions together by asking if property has what it takes to perform in a new financial order...or face a house of cards. Speakers include Estienne de Klerk of Growthpoint Properties, financial analyst. Dries du Toit and Anton de Geode of Coronation Fund Managers.
