Rock Girl initiative gets boost from Jenni Button, Paul du Toit

The Rock Girl initiative, which seeks to reduce violence against women and girls through the creation of safe spaces, has the support of South African luxury women's wear label, Jenni Button and renowned international artist, Paul du Toit. They have collaborated in producing an exclusive limited edition tank, with profits being donated to the Rock Girl initiative.

Originally inspired by a group of Grade 7 students from Mannenberg, the initiative's 'safe spaces' allows for women and girls to gain the self-confidence and skills needed to become agents of social change in their own lives. South Africa has one of the highest incidences of rape and sexual violence on the continent. Two out of every five rape victims are girls under the age of 17. Aptly put by Rock Girl CEO, India Baird, "Beautiful spaces can create social change and social change can create beautiful spaces. The collaboration with the creative community is a genuine way to show support for women and girls facing violence in their lives every day."

Creative director, Warrick Gautier says, "Jenni Button as a brand represents strong, independent women who support young women and girls in building a bright future for themselves and empowering themselves. We are proud to make a difference in such a powerful way."

There will be an opportunity to join the initiative by supporting sales of the 'Rock Girl' limited edition tanks, on sale from mid-April 2013 in selected stores.
